Week 5 Out of class

So what we did to finish up our project was fine tuning the details. Kate and I spent a few hours in and out of class changing sizing and lines and everything on out actually flow charts. It was very long process but i think that it did a great job over all and it def worked well by the end. All of that small stuff is what makes the project consistent. Megan and Nicole went out to the store and got it printed when we were completely finished.

Week 5 In class

In class on the 25th we had in class work time and we had a critique with every group. Each team took turns talking about our full sized black and white print out but we were not allowed to say anything. They gave their comments and we listened. So over all the biggest issues that all four groups came up with fix the main key (add diamond make smaller) make call out for scoreboard, fix arrows, add colors to the boxes, make title a little smaller, move play by play-key to the side make field image smaller, fix connections, add informations to the top, do not go thought field with mapping, take out diamond shape field-description, clarify description, add a description, change description. There were more suggestions but these were the most important things to us that we decided to change. After our critique we spent the rest of the class working on making those changes.  Then we printed out our full color print out to see what it looked like. The picture above is our in color printout.

week 4 in class

Today in class we have mostly in class work time. Our group is being critiqued by another group and they are giving up tips and pointer on who to improve our layout. They focused a lot on the different colors we used for the flow chart.

Week 3 homework

For home work we were required to make our flowchart in illustrator. I created two different flow charts with different size arrows and different colors. I believe the top/blue flowchart worked better the arrows are smaller and i added a texture to the back ground and it is more visually interesting. the smaller arrows make it easier to follow because the larger ones are harder to follow.

Week three In class 3a

In class today we presented our ideas to our class and we circled around and wrote comments on ever ones projects and ideas for their flow chart. We then discussed issues that we common with in every group. Then we talked about looked at examples of what is coming up in the near future for the final project for baseball our team we decided how we were going to lay out our final piece and split it up among us! This worked out well and we will be having the field and 3 different flow charts with some small illustrations.

Joshua Buckwalter

Joshua Buckwalter is a creative director and the president of central Pa AIGA He talked a lot about user experience not being the same as user interface. User experience consist of data analysis field research copy writing Interface design prototyping  taxonomy. User interface is more about interface design and prototyping. He was trying to show the importance of user experience and   and how it has to do with so many more things than interface does. I really enjoyed listening to Josh talk because when we normally have guest speakers they focus a lot on what they did and not about the process and I loved hearing about this.
I was inspired by Josh and the long process and the example he gave about when he went to the company with his group. Josh also came up with a bible including project brief commandments definitions process concept user stories. At the end of joshes talk he said that learn how to learn and be curious. This will take you far and will lead you to better opportunities. He talked about how this industry is always changing and how he learns something new every day at his job. Lastly he said his career got better when he started hanging out with the design community and getting involved in AIGA was one of his best moves. I think his presentation was great and I felt like I took a lot from his talk I will definitely get more involved.

Week 2 in class Monday

On monday in class we learned about different charts to map information on. They are flow chart, task models,User journeys, Site maps, and Funnal diagrams. We saw examples of each and learned about  how they work there was a good example of a flow chart and it was talking about friending your parents on face book this was the easiest for me to follow because it was interactive and very easy to read. We also worked on brainstorming for our project we changed our list of words that we had previously come up with. We got rid of some words that did not work as well and we added some new words that we had learned from our interviews. Then we talked in our groups about which chart we would want to use we have 5 people in our group so we thought about s flow chart for 5 players on the team but them we decided that we were going to make it more interactive and include more actions we are still going to be using about 5 players but we are going to go through one play on the field starting at the pitchers mound with the batter up.

Week two out of class assignment

For our out of class assignment this week we were asked to research out sport. Ours being baseball was hard because its not in season right now so i asked a friend of mine who plays baseball at the college level a few questions about the game so i could get a better understanding of the game. I asked him to describe the game of baseball to me.
He said the game consists of 2 teams with 9 players in the feild at a time. One team is up to bat and one team is in the field. The team that is in the field pitches the ball to the team bating. each bater gets 3 strikes or 4 balls. If the pitcher pitches 3 stikes and the bater does not hit any of the balls he is considered out. Each team has to get three players out before they teams switch positions.  A strike meaning that it is in a range that the player would be able to hit it. A ball means the pitch was to high and to low for the batter to possible be able to hit it. When the ball is hit by the player at bat the team in the field tried to get the ball to first second third or home plate before the  players on base get to the next base.  The goal of the game it to get more runs and in the home plate than the opossite team. There are nine innings in the game and there is a top and a bottom to each inning.  In the ninth inning you can score as many funs as you want un like the others.
I asked him why he likes the game. He said that he has been playing the game for years now and he likes the game because of the action and the trill of trying to win. He said the game pushed him to do his best becasue its a team effort and everyone that is playing has to try to do their best!
